Roux at Skindles – Press Release

1st August 2017

Michel and Alain Roux to open new restaurant in Autumn 2018 at Berkeley Homes’ Taplow Riverside development

Michel Roux, O.B.E. and son, Alain, will launch a new bistro restaurant called “Roux at Skindles” overlooking the River Thames, just a few miles upriver from The Waterside Inn.  It will have a relaxed, informal ambience and, like The Waterside Inn, will be overseen day to day by Alain Roux.

Designed across two storeys, the restaurant will take full advantage of its stunning setting with ground floor dining room opening onto riverside terrace with its own private mooring and a club-style lounge bar with balcony on the upper floor.

Roux at Skindles is sited alongside seven luxury villas and occupies the site of the once famous Skindles Hotel, that enjoyed popularity in the Victorian and Edwardian eras and latterly for its nightlife until its closure in the late 1990s.  The site was acquired by Berkeley Homes in 2014 and has been transformed into an amazing community across 42 acres offering luxury homes, riverside walks, moorings and a newly built footbridge linking the development to nearby Maidenhead.

Michel Roux comments “It will be totally different to our other establishments.  It has the best situation on the river and will provide a more informal dining experience with a brasserie style menu.  It is the first time we have been involved in a residential development but it will be an amazing environment and we are proud to be part of it”.

Alain Roux comments “People will be able to drop in just for a drink or a bite as they choose.  We will not be aiming for another Michelin star restaurant but we want to focus on quality and value for money.  It will be somewhere people can come for a coffee or lunch and stay for 10 minutes or two hours”.

The location and historical context proved irresistible to the Roux family considering it a superb boost for the community and Roux at Skindles will form an integral part.
